Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Players Salaries in the IPL 2020 Season

The two-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) under the able leadership of Gautam Gambhir in 2012 and 2014, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) somewhat lost their form once Gambhir left. Dinesh Karthik, though a skilled player, has not been at his best as a captain. On December 19, for the IPL auction 2020 edition, the team naturally was extremely enthusiastic about picking the likes of Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins.

The upcoming edition, scheduled to commence on March 29, will need the Knights to put their best foot forward. Driven by a few players, who have been constants and drawing hefty amounts, things look promising for the franchise. However, only time will tell if KKR will manage to attain redemption this time around.

Salaries of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Players in the IPL 2020

  1. Andre Russell (West Indies): Rs. 8.50 crore

Having been a force to reckon with for the Knights, he came into his own in 2019, so much so that he even won some matches single-handedly for KKR. In the last season, he emerged as the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker for the Knights, besides smacking 52 sixes. The team will bank on him heavily for the upcoming season.

  1. Dinesh Karthik (India): Rs. 7.40 crore

He was made the KKR captain in 2018, replacing Gautam Gambhir. He managed to take the Knights to the Qualifier 2 in the first season but in 2019, he failed to keep up not only in terms of his performance, but also his captaincy tactics. Nevertheless, KKR has retained him as the captain for the upcoming IPL season.

  1. Harry Gurney (England): Rs. 75 lakh

Having joined the KKR set-up in 2019, he was seen as the saving grace to the team’s lackluster bowling unit. Though his initial performance was lukewarm, he improved significantly in the CPL, representing the Barbados Tridents. Hence, KKR was willing to give this England fast bowler another chance.

  1. Kamlesh Nagarkoti (India): Rs. 3.20 crore

His consistent stint in the 2018 edition of the U19 World Cup in New Zealand made everyone sit up and take notice. KKR eventually decided to give him a contract; however, the franchise was left disappointed as the player could not play even a single game for them due to injury. Despite this, KKR chose to retain him, and now it remains to be seen if he will be able to repay their faith this time.

  1. Kuldeep Yadav (India): Rs. 5.80 crore

A prime component of the Knights’ team over the last three seasons, he surely has oodles of X-factor in his kitty. However, he was in dismal form over the last season, getting four wickets in nine matches before being sidelined. This spinner has been winning back his form of late and KKR has their fingers crossed.

  1. Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand): Rs. 1.60 crore

He tried his hand at the IPL in the previous season, and it did not turn out to be a very rewarding experience. The right-arm pacer got only 2 wickets in five games and what’s worse, his economy rate stood at 10.76. KKR, however, decided to retain him on the back of his abilities.

  1. Nitish Rana (India): Rs. 3.40 crore

He was quite an asset for Mumbai Indians in the 2017 edition before he moved to the Knight Riders, enriching the team’s middle-order considerably. Last season, he turned out to be the Knight’s second highest run-scorer after Dre-Russ, scoring 344 runs at a strike-rate of 146.38 over 14 matches.

  1. Prasidh Krishna (India): Rs. 20 lakh

Having joined the KKR line-up as an injury replacement in 2018, the Karnataka pacer soon hogged the limelight with his performances. It is natural that KKR chose to retain him for 2019 but ironically enough, he was in terrible form, getting only 4 wickets with a forgettable average of 94.25. Eventually, he got back some momentum in the domestic circuit and is expected to pull up his socks further for the 2020 IPL.

  1. Rinku Singh (India): Rs. 80 lakh

Though he was roped in by KKR for the 2018 IPL edition, he did not get a chance to prove his mettle in the star-studded lineup. Last season saw him playing five matches with a tally of 37 runs. With a T20 average of 20.62, he did not stand a strong chance this time around. It is thus unclear why KKR chose to retain him.

  1. Sandeep Warrier (India): Rs. 20 lakh

Having played only a couple of matches for KKR last season, the 28-year old picked up a couple of wickets in three matches. His economy rate of 7.08 made him KKR’s most frugal bowler. Currently, he is also part of India A’s setup for the New Zealand tour.

  1. Shivam Mavi (India): Rs. 3 crore

Yet another bowler who hogged the limelight after the 2018 U19 World Cup, Mavi got chances in 9 games where he picked up 5 wickets for KKR. He was also expensive with an economy rate of 9.64. He had to miss the last season due to injury and KKR has kept their faith in him for IPL 2020.

  1. Shubman Gill (India): Rs. 1.80 crore

Acknowledged as the Player of the Tournament in the 2018 U19 World Cup, he batted in the middle order in the first season, scoring 203 runs. While in the previous season, he had batted in the top-order, the move to promote him up the order proved to be hugely beneficial for the Knights. He went on to score 296 runs in 14 matches with three half-centuries to his credit.

  1. Siddhesh Lad (India): Rs. 20 lakh

This talented batsman has been with the Mumbai Indians since 2015. His IPL debut, however, happened just last season when he replaced an injured Rohit Sharma. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a solitary game after which he again had to return to the bench. The Mumbai team eventually dropped him. Though he has now landed up in KKR’s kitty, he is not likely to play a lot of matches in the IPL.

  1. Sunil Narine (West Indies): Rs. 12.5 crore

He debuted in the T20 league way back in 2012. Ever since, he has consistently been a part of the KKR team and has also managed to be in the news as one of the top wicket-takers in the tournament. In 2017, his batting prowess was also showcased and he continues to be a handy player.

  1. Pat Cummins (Australia): Rs. 15.50 crore

This right-arm pacer has been Australia’s standout performer in the last 12 months or so, irrespective of the format. He has also played for the franchise before as part of the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) as well as the Mumbai Indians. He is now awaiting the opportunity to put his best foot forward as one of the KKR boys.

  1. Eoin Morgan (England): Rs. 5.25 crore

The 2019 World-Cup winning skipper was one of the first players to go under the hammer in the auction. The Knights were quick to rope him in, hoping for rich dividends in the main event. The fact that he performed well in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and also for the Brits more recently is hope enough for KKR fans.

  1. Varun Chakravarthy (India): Rs. 4 crore

He has been a part of the Kings XI Punjab lineup last season, where he played a solitary game before retreating to the benches. Once Punjab released the spinner, he went into the auction pool where the Knights drafted him in. KKR has always fallen back on its talented spinners and it will be a great opportunity for Varun to put his skills to the test as well.

  1. Tom Banton (England): Rs. 1 crore

It was the T20 Blast in England where he showed his expertise for Somerset, following which he was called in for the Three Lions’ national team as well. He eventually went on to play the Abu Dhabi T10 league and the Big Bash League as well. Fans are waiting to see him in form, just as he was when he hit spinner Arjun Nair for five sixes in an over.

  1. Rahul Tripathi (India): Rs. 60 lakh

In 2017, he proved his mettle for the Rising Pune Supergiant team. No wonder in the very next year, the Rajasthan Royals roped him in. it was quite disappointing, however, that he shuffled around the batting order and hardly got any chance to open. The Royals stuck with him for a couple of seasons before letting him go. KKR is sanguine that he, along with Shubman Gill, will be a formidable opening duo.

  1. Chris Green (Australia): Rs. 20 lakh

He has had a fairly successful stint in domestic T20 leagues around the globe. This is his first time in the KKR franchise, but he is expected to be quite tough to outdo in the PowerPlay overs. Earlier in January, he was suspended for three months, thanks to a suspect bowling action. Now he is waiting for the opportune moment to turn things in his favor.

  1. M Siddharth (India): Rs. 20 lakh

Given that he isn’t an experienced player, it was quite natural that the Knights roped him in at the last stage of the auction. In fact, chances are high that he would mostly stay on the sidelines in the IPL. He had earlier played for the Lyca Kovai Kings in the 2017 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The IPL might turn out to be a likely platform for him to tap his potential.

  1. Pravin Tambe (India): Rs. 20 lakh

Having debuted in the IPL way back in 2013, Tambe last played in the tournament in 2016. Recently, at the age of 48, he became the oldest player to be a part of an IPL auction. However, chances of him playing in the 2020 IPL are slim.

  1. Nikhil Naik (India): Rs. 20 lakh

This 25-year old player from Maharashtra joined the Knights in the 2019 IPL edition, prior to which he put up a decent performance for his state team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, scoring some massive sixes. However, he played only a solitary game in the IPL before being released. Though KKR let him go ahead of the auction, they bought him back at his base price itself. Now it remains to be seen if he manages to deliver.

As can be seen, KKR has a solid lineup this time around and will be strong contenders for the title. They have managed to build a team that is more or less balanced in terms of youth and experience.
