Among them are some players from other franchisees who were really successful with other franchises and played a key role in their success. We carry on our IPL coverage by bringing another ‘Players to Watch Out For’ write-up where we will be analysing a team that has been everyone’s second favorite team after their local favorite. The Royals will e trying to emulate their first season heroics after which they hardly had anything to cheer about in the league in the last 12 editions.

Here are the five key players to watch out for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020.

Steve Smith

The former Australian Test skipper will continue leading the franchise in the 13th edition of the IPL. With Ajinkya Rahane traded to Delhi Capitals, Smith has the added responsibility of not only leading the side but also batting through the innings for his side. This is what makes him a player to watch out for his side. The Royals finished seventh on the points table last season and the onus now is on Smith to turn the season around. He was in the Australian Test squad which whitewashed the Kiwis 3-0 after winning the third and final Test match in Sydney. Since making his comeback to international cricket after serving the ban imposed on him by Cricket Australia, Smith has upped his game. He scored 379 runs in the 2019 World Cup followed by 774 runs in the Ashes series and 214 against New Zealand. He is in his best batting form at the moment and the Royals would hope that he keeps it going in the IPL too.

Jos Buttler

Buttler is among one of the three England cricketers who form the core of this Rajasthan Royals outfit. He is for sure among the key players to watch out for his side. Since he started opening the batting for the Royals, he has batted with an attacking approach, something that is very instinctive in his game. He has scored nearly 900 runs in just two seasons for the Royals. One expects Buttler to be among the decision-makers for his side given the fact that he is one of the senior players in the side. His unorthodox approach to batting makes him one of the toughest batsmen to bowl to. His IPL career strike rate is also over 150. He has been in the highest-run getters list in the last two seasons and is expected to be on that list this year too.

Sanju Samson has been with the Royals since 2013. He played for two seasons with Delhi Capitals too (2016, 2017) and for both the franchisees he displayed his potential. Samson is among the few players in the league who has IPL tons for two different teams. Samson forms a big part of the Royals batting order. He has the ability to play in two gears, attacking and defensive which makes him a key player to watch out for the Royals. Samson is now a finished product and is waiting for his much-deserved chance to get into the Indian team. He was a part of the Indian squad for the Bangladesh series but did not get a game. The BCCI then retained him in the T20I squad for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka but he wasn’t a part of the playing XI for the second game which India won at Indore. Having proven his mettle in the IPL in the past, 2020 might just be the season when the cricketing world sees Samson flourish on the big stage.

Archer joined the Royals family in 2018 and since then has become a core member of the team. He was among the top wicket-takers list both in 2018 and 2019. He is handy with the bat too. In his last IPL game for the Royals last year he scored a quickfire 27 to help them win the game against KKR. His ability to bowl fast coupled with his big-hitting ability lower down the order makes him a player to watch out for the Royals in IPL 2020. Besides his batting and bowling, he is athletic in the field too, which makes him a complete package and a valuable asset for his side. The Royals would hope that he remains fit and available throughout the season.

England’s 2019 Ashes hero, Ben Stokes will have to up his game after a rather ordinary IPL 2019. In 9 matches last season, Stokes picked up six wickets and scored just 123 runs striking at 132. The reputed all-rounder helped England draw the Ashes level with his unbeaten century (135*) at Headingley. An impact player, Stokes needs to find his touch for the Royals as and when the IPL 2020 season starts. He is the final player to watch out for the Rajasthan Royals in our elite list. The Royals have a lot of hope from Stokes this IPL season after they retained him ahead of the IPL 2020 auction.
