IPL 2020: 5 Unsold Players of IPL 2020 who should not take part in 2021

Once again, people saw the big money spent in the IPL auction as a lot of players across the globe picked up. IPL is one of the big platforms, where a number of players from around the cricket globe try their luck out. This is actually a tournament that has shaped up a number of careers ever since the first edition way back in 2018. Each and every franchise has picked some of the successful players in their team. The franchises splurged some of the massive amounts on a few players as well.

In the meantime, a number of cricketers couldn’t bag the deal. Out of the unsold players there are some of the names, whose IPL careers might just have witnessed an end. Henceforth, those players should go for the second thought while taking part in the 2021 auction.

5 players who should not take part in 2021

Cheteshwar Pujara (India)

When it comes to take the name of the Indian stalwarts of test side, Cheteshwar Pujara comes as one of the big names in the list. The Saurashtra batter has the temperament to grill and grind for hours, and then simply stave off the best of bowling attacks. He has the capability of finishing the match with a style and elegance. He has done so many records in his test career. However, even as his Test career for India has flourished, his limited-overs career never took off. Though he got opportunity in ODIs and t-20 but he could not leave the mark.

Rub of the green has not really gone in his favor even in a cash-rich and prestigious T20 league. He had the privilege of playing alongside Sourav Ganguly in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in his maiden IPL season in 2010. Then in 30 matches, Pujara could only manage 390 runs.

In fact, in the year of 2014, he has played IPL for KXIP but since then he has gone unsold and this was not any different even in this time. For the time being, it seems like the end of Pujara’s IPL career.

Shaun Marsh (Australia)

Back in the year 2008, Shaun Marsh was the leading run-scorer in the IPL. He has represented KXIP but he failed to perform. The southpaw scored 616 runs at 68.44 and the performances assisted him break into the Australian national team.

Afterward, he had his fair share of success in the T20 league. In 71 matches, for the same franchise, Marsh ended up scoring 2477 runs at an average of 39.95. Going into the 2018 season, the Punjab franchise has released him and then he remained unsold at a base price of INR 1.50 crores.

Same was the case in 2019 when he didn’t find the purchaser at a base price of INR 2 crore. Even for 2020, the veteran southpaw registered himself at 1.50 crore. This time around his name was not even called up. Marsh is 36 and he might already have played his last IPL game.

James Faulkner (Australia)

James Faulkner made his debut in the IPL in the year of 2011 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He is an all-rounder platform and back then, he has made a lot of amazing performances. This left arm medium pacer did not get so many wickets at any stage of game.

But after a few seasons, Faulkner has experienced the slump from where he could hardly recover. The Tasmania-born doesn’t even get many chances in the Big Bash League (BBL), such has been his downfall. In almost 60 IPL matches, Faulkner has managed 527 runs and 59 wickets.

He has played for Gujarat Lions but still he had to try hard in that year. Barring something miraculous, this will be tough for him to play another IPL game.

Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka)

Angelo Mathews is one of the big names in cricket and he has been one of the very successful players in Sri Lanka cricket. After making his international debut in the year 2008, the Colombo-born forayed into the IPL, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Even as he played a few decent knocks for the Knights, he really could not be consistent enough.

The Knights finally released him and Mathews went on to play for Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rising Pune Supergiant. But after the Daredevils, now Capitals, released him, Mathews hasn’t taken a part in the prestigious T20 league.

This 32 year old all-rounder registered himself in the auction at a base price of INR 2 Crore. This did not come as a surprise that the player has returned without any deal.

Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh)

Mushfiqur Rahim is one of the most consistent middle-order batsmen and has shown his sheer class time and again. He is currently playing for the Khulna Tigers in the BPL 2019-20 and he has also turned up with a knock of 96 off 51 balls, helping his side to the stupendous victory. This time he has remained unsold and he has returned after the request from the franchises. This is unlikely that he’ll ever play in the IPL.
