IPL 2020: 5 Players to Watch Out for SRH This Season

With an eye to replicate their 2016 heroics, Sunrisers Hyderabad have assembled a strong squad in the IPL 2020 auctions held in the last month in Kolkata. They bought a total of seven players including the Indian-U19 captain Priyam Garg who will lead the team in the upcoming U-19 World Cup in South Africa later this month. Virat Singh, the uncapped Indian player from Jharkhand has also been added into the squad along with the Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who is currently leading the Perth Scorchers in the BBL 09. Marsh will surely be one of the SRH players to watch out for in IPL 2020.

In this article, we will take a look at five SRH players to watch out for in IPL 2020.

The Australian left-hander finished with 692 runs from 12 games for Sunrisers last season including a hundred. A new season, but the same old Warner will be the most important SRH player to watch out for in IPL 2020. Since he started playing for SRH in 2013, he has scored more than 500 runs every season barring his first (413 in 2013). This shows how consistent he has been for his franchise and how dependent SRH has been on him to score the runs. Overall, since 2013, Warner has scored nearly 60 percent of SRH’s runs. It was under his captaincy that SRH won their maiden IPL title in 2016 and they would hope that he replicate his performance as Sunrisers look for their second IPL title.

The Kiwi skipper took them to the knockouts of IPL 2019 and he becomes the second player in the list of SRH players to watch out for in IPL 2020. He has been re-elected as the skipper for the season and he will be an important part of the middle order along with Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar. He had a disappointing season by his standards last year as he scored just 156 runs in nine games. Someone who accumulates his runs through strokeplay, Williamson has handed his resources very well during his tenure as captain and he would like to walk in the footsteps of Warner. He can also draw confidence from the fact that he took his national team to the finals of the 2019 World Cup, something which will augur him well in the IPL 2020.

The world number one T20I bowler has been a revelation since he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017. He has 55 wickets from just 46 games and is among the quickest bowlers to get to 50 IPL wickets. His exploits in the IPL has earned him a BBL contract with the Adelaide Strikers the same year he played for SRH. He is also one short of getting to 50 BBL wickets as well. One of the most devastating bowlers in the shortest format, the wrong one is his biggest weapon. He is the vice-captain of the current national side and was a part of the Afghanistan squad for the 2019 World Cup in England. He is handy with the bat too lower down the order and has played a number of cameos both in the IPL and the BBL. All these attributes makes him one of the SRH players to watch out for in this IPL season.

Alongside Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the key bowler which makes him an SRH player to watch out for in IPL 2020. Bhuvi is currently not a part of the Indian team owing to his hamstring and side strain injury which has kept him out of the national team since September last year. Having missed the home series against Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka, Bhuvi is also set to miss India’s ODI series against Australia as well. Currently, he is nursing his injury at the NCA who haven’t updated on his fitness yet. With the IPL starting likely from March 29, Bhuvi has enough time to recover from his injury and make it to the squad. He is the most experienced among the SRH pacers and his presence will certainly be key for the 2016 champions.

Marsh has not featured regularly in the IPL over the years as he prioritized national commitments over IPL contracts. However, things have changed this season. Interestingly he has been roped in the very team against whom he played his last IPL game in 2016 for the now-terminated Rising Pune Supergiants. Marsh was brought for his base price of two crores. He adds the much-needed depth to the SRH batting line-up with his all-round abilities. He is one of the seven overseas players in the SRH squad and it will be interesting to see how does he fit in the scheme of things for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was the last of they key SRH players to watch out for in IPL 2020.
