IPL 2020: Predicted Line-Up Of MI This Season

Four-time IPL champions added six players to their already strong squad and in the process has strengthened it even more. They roped in Sherfane Rutherford and Trent Boult from Delhi Capitals in the pre-auction transfer window and bolstered the power in the bowling and batting departments. Historically, MI are late starters in the tournament. However, with this squad things are likely to change. With so many superstars in the team choosing an ideal predicted line-up is difficult.

In this article, we will continue the process of choosing the three best possible predicted line-ups and this time we will analyse the Rohit Sharma-led team.

The Best Possible Predicted Line-Up of MI

Rohit Sharma, Chris Lynn, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah

MI bought Chris Lynn at his base price of 2 crores which was one of the biggest surprise of the IPL 2020 auctions. With him coming into the scheme of things, Quinton de Kock might not feature in the line-up in all the matches. Rohit and Lynn make a formidable opening pair for Mumbai who can terrorize any bowling attack in the tournament. The placid Mumbai track where the ball comes onto the ball quite quickly, Lynn who likes to hit the ball hard will enjoy his batting. His attacking approach will allow Rohit to play his natural game. Mumbai’s middle-order is one of the strongest in the tournament with the likes of Pollard and Hardik Pandya in the lineup. In case Mumbai lose early wickets, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan can anchor the innings together and lay the platform for Pollard and Hardik to explode in the final overs. Krunal Pandya with his all-round abilities is a utility cricketer for the side.

Coming down to their bowling attack, Lasith Malinga, as he has done for the past 11 seasons will lead the bowling attack. He will be ably supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan. Krunal and Rahul Chahar will be the two specialist spinners in the side. What will be really interesting to see is how does Boult fit in the scheme of things for Mumbai Indians. With Malinga and Bumrah picking themselves in the line-up, he can only swap places with his Kiwi teammate McClenaghan, who has achieved a lot of success with the franchise.

The above-mentioned team is thus the best possible predicted line-up of Mumbai Indians.

Batting Heavy Predicted Line-up of MI

Since Mumbai are late starters in the tournament, they get into must-win situations most of the time. In matches where they want to beef up their batting line-up, they can bring in De Kock in the line-up in place of an extra foreign seamer. Left-arm pacer McClenaghan will then have to vacate his place. They also have another option in Rutherford in case they want to go with him for his ability to strike the ball hard lower down the order. The middle-order will continue with Pollard and the Pandya brothers.

Malinga will continue to lead the bowling line-up along with Bumrah. Chahar and Krunal will be the specialist spinners. Hardik is an additional bowling option as is Pollard. Despite the batting line-up gaining more muscle, the bowling attack still looks good and the team is hardly any different from their regular playing XI. This is the best possible batting heavy predicted line-up of MI.

Bowling Heavy Predicted Line-up of MI

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah

In matches, they need to bolster their bowling attack, they have many options to choose from. They already had Malinga, McClenaghan and Bumrah and they added Boult during the pre-transfer window and bought Coulter-Nile at the auctions. Thus they have a good all-round attack and it can be assumed that they will pick their bowling line-up according to the oppositions. On pitches like Eden and Chepauk, spinners will be expected to define the game, while in Mumbai, Banglore and Mohali where pitches are batting friendly, Mumbai have the firepower in their pace attack to pose problems for opposition batsmen.

Matches where the bowling line-up is strengthened, one of the overseas batsmen might have to take a backseat. Despite that, Mumbai have the batting depth to put up the runs if they bat first and even chase it down. Keeping in mind the options, this is the best possible bowling-heavy predicted line-up of MI.
