IPL 2020 Auctions: Five Indian Players Who Might Go Unsold

Indian Premier League 2020 Points Table, Team Standings & Retained Players

There is immense anticipation regarding the upcoming IPL 2020 auctions among the fans of Indian cricket. A total of 971 players will go under the hammer in Kolkata on December 19 which will start the prelude to the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League. While there is excitement around the new bunch of players who will be participating in the auctions for the first time there are some players who might go unsold in the upcoming auctions. The reasons for the exclusion of these players range from age issues to current form to past IPL record.

Here’s a list of five Indian players who might go unsold in the upcoming auctions.

Robin Uthappa

One of the veterans of IPL cricket, Robin Uthappa failed to find form with KKR between 2018 and 2019. In the last two seasons, he has just two fifty-plus scores for Kolkata and has scored 351 and 282 runs respectively. Uthappa failed to convert his starts into substantial scores and after 12 matches he was dropped from the playing XI. Given that he is woefully out of form and has not done anything noticeable in domestic cricket after the IPL, franchisees might just oversee Uthhappa this season.

Hanuma Vihari

The middle-order batsman was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2020 auctions. Vihari was hardly used by the franchise with the bat and even lesser with the ball. After playing a few matches in IPL 2015, he was not recruited by any of the franchises till 2018. Delhi roped in Vihari in the 2019 IPL auctions and he played only two matches for the franchise. He was again released by Delhi ahead of IPL 2020 auctions and there is little hope that he will be part of any team for the next IPL season.

The Haryana-born all-rounder was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2020 auctions. He made his IPL debut with the Rajasthan Royals and scored at an impressive strike rate of 158.94. He moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 but hasn’t been able to deliver for them ever since. Hooda has only managed 229 runs in the 30 matches he has played in the last three seasons for SRH. With his form deteriorating, none of the franchisees might opt for him for the upcoming season.

Prayas Ray Barman

Young spinner Barman was roped in by RCB last season but he played only one game for the franchise. Being an uncapped Indian rookie with no IPL experience to add to his worth, Barman might not impress the selectors this time around in the upcoming IPL auctions. However, with age on his side, he can become one of the finds of the IPL with years to come.

Tiwary was one of the members of the victorious KKR squad which lifted the IPL title in 2012. Since then though he was picked by a particular franchisee, he failed to be a regular member of the playing XI. He was a part of the 2017 Rising Pune Supergiants squad under MS Dhoni which made the finals. In 2018, he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab where he lost out on a spot in the playing XI once again. Between 2018 and 2019, Tiwary has just played 5 matches and he might just lose out on getting a franchise in the upcoming IPL auctions.
