IPL 2020- 3 Players KKR could target at the IPL Auction 2020

KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) have brought in Brendon McCullum as their head coach for the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). After his retirement from all competitive international cricket, McCullum has been insistent on stepping into full-time coaching and an opportunity in the IPL for KKR will be a vital step towards accomplishing this goal. McCullum started coaching with the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), taking his team to the tournament knock-outs.

As a result, he may work well in the KKR setup. He has also recommended some of the players to be targeted at the auctions which will take place on the 19th of December, 2019, in Kolkata.

3 Players KKR Could target at the 2020 IPL Auction

  1. James Neesham: James Neesham went unsold in the auction for the 2019 IPL at a reserve price of Rs. 75 lakh. However, he will generate interest from several franchises in the upcoming season due to his heroics with both bat and ball. The New Zealand all-rounder hit five sixes consecutively versus Sri Lanka, scoring 47 not out off 13 balls to find a place in the 2019 World Cup team for New Zealand which made the finals. He played a vital role all throughout the mega event, striving hard in the Super Over in the final as well. KKR requires a good all-rounder as much-needed backup for Andre Russell since Carlos Brathwaite has not quite done the job that was needed. McCullum may look to snap up his fellow-countryman at the auction.
  2. Max Bryant: This explosive 20-year old batsman can open the innings and debuted for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash season 2018-19. He opened with McCullum himself and had a good outing overall. His flamboyant batting fitted well with Chris Lynn and McCullum, who were quickly labelled as Bash Brothers or Bash Triplets. Bryant may be on McCullum’s radar for his huge potential. He showed amazing confidence in a match against Melbourne Stars as well, where he opened with Ben Cutting and chased a total of 157 runs in just 10 overs without losing any wicket. Backup opener Joe Denly has not been an ideal fit for KKR and Bryant may be a good replacement. He also shares great chemistry with Lynn and McCullum which could be useful in the KKR dressing room.
  3. Eoin Morgan: World-Cup winning England skipper Eoin Morgan will be on the radar for many IPL teams and KKR would definitely be interested. Morgan is admired immensely by McCullum who has a great relationship with him already. McCullum officiated as the master of ceremonies at Morgan’s wedding as well, indicating the close nature of their friendship. This special rapport will be handy for KKR by all means. Morgan is not just a skilful captain but also a consummate batsman who created history in the 2019 World Cup. He hit 17 sixes against Afghanistan and was the third-highest hitter of sixes in the Vitality Blast 2019 along with Tom Banton and Aaron Finch. He hit 23 sixes in just 9 matches while 13 matches each were required for Banton and Finch to hit 23 sixes.

These are three players who could be invaluable for KKR if they are brought into the mix. KKR anyway need a thorough overhaul of their team if they are to be serious contenders for the IPL 2020 crown.
