List of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Winners Since 2009 to Present
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup (previously known as ICC World Twenty20) is an International Twenty20 Cricket tournament for women organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The first edition of the Womens T20 World Cup was held in England in 2009. For the first 3 tournaments, there were 8 teams, but this number has increased to 10 from the 2014 edition. First Womens T20 World Cup was won by England against New Zealand in 2009. Schedule of Womens T20 World Cup 2020 has been announced by ICC which will take place in Australia from 21st February 2020 to 8th March 2020. Australia are the current Women’s T20 World Cup title holder, beating England in the final of 2018 tournament.
Currently, ICC Womens T20 World Cup consists of 10 teams. Until 2014, 6 teams were determined by the top 6 teams from the ICC Women’s Twenty20 International rankings at the time of the draw and the remaining 2 teams were determined by a qualification process. For the 2014 tournament, 6 places were determined by the top 8 teams of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, with the host country and 3 qualifiers joining them in the finals. From 2016 onwards, 7 places were determined by the top 8 teams of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, with the host country and 2 qualifiers joining them in the finals.
Till date, 6 ICC Womens T20 World cup tournaments have been played and Australia is the current defending champion and they are also the most successful team in the tournament having won the title 4 times, while Englan, and Sri Lanka have won the title once each. West Indies, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh are the other top levels teams who never won the Womens T20 World Cup yet.
