As 2019 is a World Cup year, most cricket teams were concentrating on the ODI format. It has been seen that a lot of matches have been played this year in the 50-over format. As the ICC World Cup was amongst the most awaited events of 2019, there were several teams who focused extensively on building teams to stand out in this particular format.

Here are some of the players who deserve to make it to the best ODI XI of 2019 by all means!

Best Batsmen of ODI 2019

Rohit Sharma stood out as the top ODI run-scorer 

2019 was exceptional for Rohit Sharma and he has become the main ODI run-scorer with seven centuries and 1,490 runs. Apart from this, he gave his best shot in the World Cup as he scored 648 with an average of 81. Even in the premier competition, he could manage five centuries and became the main run-getter for Team India.

Jason Roy does make it to the list as well

Leading commentator and cricket expert Harsha Bhogle, has picked Jason Roy as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the best ODI team of 2019. Roy has scored 845 runs at an average of more than 70 and is the second-highest run-scorer for England.

Virat Kohli retained his ODI dominance 

Virat Kohli continued to dominate ODI games all throughout 2019. He managed to get 1,377 runs with an excellent average of 59.86. His performance has been excellent this year and he has played many match-winning innings for the team. He has successfully ended the year being the second-highest run maker after his fellow teammate Rohit Sharma. Also, this is the 7th time when he has scored more than 1,000 runs in ODIs in a calendar year.  

Babar Azam manages to find a place on his batting merit

Pakistan’s Babar Azam finds a place in the best ODI XI of 2019 solely on his batting prowess and performance in 2019. Babar Azam became the 3rd fastest batsman to score 11 ODI hundreds, achieving the feat in only 71 innings which is even faster than Virat Kohli’s 82 innings to get to the same milestone. He scored a fine 96 runs in the ODI versus Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2019 and then achieved this feat in the second One-Day match versus Sri Lanka. He also became the fastest player for Pakistan to reach 3,000 runs in ODI matches.

Jos Butler – wicketkeeper-batsman

The famous wicketkeeper-batsman showed his class early this year by scoring 150 runs against the West Indies in the 4th ODI of the series. Also, in the World Cup finals, he played well in the super overs and even smashed seven runs from three balls to boost the score of the team. Buttler got into the ODI XI for 2019 ahead of Alex Carey from Australia who has also performed exceedingly well.

Best All Rounders of ODI

Harsha Bhogle has picked Shakib Al Hasan as the premier all-rounder in the team for his amazing exploits with the bat and ball at the ICC World Cup 2019. Additionally, he has also chosen Ben Stokes for the 6th position for his increasing prominence as one of the best modern-day all-rounders, explosive with both bat and ball and also a consummate fielder.

Best Bowlers of ODI

Harsha Bhogle has picked the famous trio of England’s Jofra Archer, India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Mitchell Starc that took 75 ODI wickets in 2019. All three are pace spearheads for their teams and this is one tantalizing combination that will give batsmen the world over nightmares if something like this actually materializes. On sheer performance, these three premier fast bowlers cannot be kept out of the best ODI team for 2019. In the tally of spinners, one should not forget Kuldeep Yadav, India’s Chinaman specialist. Kuldeep managed 32 wickets in 23 ODI games this year and is handy with the bat as well.

Thus, the premier ODI XI for this year comprises of 4 players each from India and England along with a player each from Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh.
