8 PSL matches to be played in Pakistan; host of final also decided

A host of changes are set to take place in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League, with the tournament slated to start in the UAE and then head to Pakistan for the final eight games. The final will be played in Karachi on the 17th of March.

Ehsan Mani, Chairman of the PCB, presided over a meeting of the PSL governing council, arriving at a decision earlier today. Mani harped on the fact that the PCB’s main aim is to ensure transparency and that they would work harmoniously with all the franchises in an attempt to make the league a huge success.

In a unanimous vote, it was also decided that for the upcoming rights of the PSL, the bid committees would comprise franchise representatives; a decision supported by Mani, who highlighted the fact that there needs to be a collective growth of all the partners involved.

“PCB and all PSL franchises are partners in this project and I am confident that we will all work together to bring in good numbers for our next rights cycle,' Mani announced after the meeting.

Another agenda that was discussed at the meeting was the upcoming player draft’s pick order. Each team will be allowed to retain a maximum of 10 players, with the draft order depending on last year’s ranking. However, the franchises did see eye to eye regarding the draft order for PSL 5, agreeing to the introduction of a randomized draft.

The 2019 season of the PSL will kick off on February 14th in the UAE. A host of star names are expected to feature this time around, including former South African international AB de Villiers, who recently confirmed his participation in the tournament.
