Chelsea offer N’Golo Kante new £290,000 per week contract – Reports

Chelsea have offered to make N'Golo Kante the highest-paid player at the club, according to The Times. The French midfielder has been offered a new contract even though his current deal expires in 2021.

The Blues are desperate to keep him at the club and have given him a new deal worth £290,000 – almost double of what he currently earns. It is said to be a five-year deal that is worth £15 million per season.

The Times report that Paris Saint-Germain are trying to take the Chelsea star back to France this summer. PSG offered to double his current wages, and that made Chelsea think. They were trying to do all they can to get him to sign a new contract and keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Apart from PSG, Barcelona were also linked with a move for Kante. Juventus were also said to be eyeing him in a deal that would have seen Higuain, Rugani and Pjanic moving to Chelsea.

Juventus were keen on signing him or Pogba this summer while Barcelona were also eyeing one of the two French midfielders. The duo impressed at the World Cup and were vital in France’s victorious campaign.

Chelsea are already fighting with Real Madrid to keep Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge. Los Blancos have circled in on the two as their contracts expire in two years and a year respectively. They are looking to avoid any possibility of facing a similar situation with Kante and want to tie him down to a new contract as soon as possible.

Chelsea signed Kante from Leicester City for £30 million two years ago. He joined the Blues months after he had helped the Foxes win the Premier League and won the League title once again with the London side. He has been their main man ever since he made the move.
