ASIA CUP 2018: 4 Reasons Why Bangladesh Lost To India

After beating Hong Kong and Pakistan in their first two games, India began their Super Fours campaign in style as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Dubai international stadium in Dubai. With this win, Rohit Sharma and co. just need one more win for a place in the final.

This match was all about comeback man Ravindra Jadeja, who ran through the Bangladesh middle-order on his return and helped India win the match. Some fantastic effort from the Indian bowlers restricted Bangladesh for just 173.

Chasing a modest target, the Indian batsmen were never in trouble of falling short as Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 83, along with notable contributions from Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni, helped them cruise to a seven-wicket win.

Let us take a look at four reasons why Bangladesh lost their Super Fours game to India.

Failure to get off to a good start

After being put into bat first, Bangladesh openers failed to give their team a flying start. It took them as many as 15 overs to score their first boundary against Afghanistan last night but against India, they registered it in the fourth over of the innings.

While there was some improvement in that aspect, there was no improvement in giving a team to a good start. The absence of Tamim Iqbal was clearly visible as neither Liton Das nor Nazmul Hossain Shanto took on the responsibility on themselves.

Liton failed to connect a short delivery and ended up offering Kedar Jadhav a catch at fine-leg and just four balls later, Nazmul tried to take on Jasprit Bumrah and ended up offering Shikhar Dhawan an easy catch. The Tigers were reduced to 16/2 in the fifth over with both the openers back in the hut.

Ravindra Jadeja's spell

Prior to the game against Bangladesh, the Indian selectors announced that Ravindra Jadeja, Siddarth Kaul and Deepak Chahar have been named as replacements for the injured trio of Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya.

Jadeja was drafted into the playing XI straightaway and the all-rounder made a strong case for himself to be in the ODI scheme of things as he ran through the Bangladesh batting order and helped India restrict them for just 173.

First, he dismissed Shakib Al Hasan for 17 in his first over before dismissing Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim in quick succession. He came back for his final spell and sent back Mosaddek Hossain for 12 and ended with figures of 4/29 in his 10 over.

Veteran batsmen throwing their wickets away

Though Jadeja bowled well to take four wickets, the Bangladesh batsmen will have themselves to blame as their experienced batsmen failed to take on the responsibility on themselves to take their team to a decent position.

Liton Das failed to connect a pull shot and offered the fine-leg fielder a simple catch. Shakib, who is easily Bangladesh's best batsman, threw his wicket away after a lack of game awareness. After taking 10 runs off Jadeja's first few balls, Shakib went for a sweep shot off the last ball and ended up hitting the ball straight to Shikhar Dhawan at square-leg.

With Shakib back in the hut, a lot was expected from Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored a brilliant 144 against Sri Lanka to help his team register a huge win, to take Bangladesh to safety. But, the wicketkeeper-batsman played a reverse sweep when he was expected to pull things back and ended up offering Yuzvendra Chahal a simple catch at short third man.

The experienced batsmen could have done a lot better and helped their team post a decent total on the board.

India's blazing start

After restricting Bangladesh for just 173, India were off to a great start as openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put on 61 runs for the opening wicket.

Dhawan, coming after scoring a match-winning 125 and 46 in his previous two games, took on the Bangladesh bowlers when Rohit was getting his eye in. He scored four boundaries and one six his brief stay at the crease which saw him score 40 off 47 balls.

He might have missed out on a fifty but he ensured that his team got off to a great start in their innings. Once Dhawan departed, Rohit kept going and notched up his second fifty in as many games.

He remained unbeaten on 83 off 104 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. .
